Limestone Pool Fountain on a Stepped Terrace Plinth

A reclaimed limestone pool fountain raised on its own broad stepped plinth, which lifts the pool above the terrace and turns it into a centrepiece rather than a basin at ground level. The round fluted pillar carries a wide dished cap and two iron spout arms, and the octagonal pool is built from canted blocks with a rolled coping and a moulded skirt. The limestone is grey and granular, pitted all over from exposure. Photographed on an open terrace above a wooded valley.
